The copper-catalyzed azide-alkyne cycloaddition (CuAAC) has been widely utilized in applications of bioconjugation. The CuAAC reaction involves the coupling of an azide and a terminal alkyne to form a stable triazole linkage between two disparate molecular entities. While this coupling process is straight forward neither azides nor alkynes occur naturally in biomolecules.
